Hopes and Memories
Martha Aroha

even the water is harder in the south

somethese days my head is full o poems, but

today is not somethose.
met mum, climbed a hill, and kissed her

goodbye, passed a quick sketch of

late spring ferns, waist-high,

shaved my legs for the northern line and

Liverpool might even
win the league this season.

some of us look for reasons
in the frothier details:
i’m staring down the plug
w my toothbrush in my mouth,

the sink soaks up all the foam

& all my imaginary kids still

have big noses.
